許雅三教授的一封信

 Dear all,

Time flies very fast. It is quickly approaching the end of this semester.  I do hope you find the course of computer architecture is interesting. At least I hope you have learned something out of it. To help you understand the materials, I have tried my best to speak slowly and also make my handouts as clear as possible so that you could still capture the most important concepts in case you missed my presentations. However, no matter how much I have tried, I am sure there are places that can be improved and made better. Only you, the audience, can tell me which areas that I should do differently. Therefore, I would appreciate any feedback you can give me so that I can refine my teaching skill.

As said before, most of today’s systems have one or more processor in it even though they may not be called computers. These processors function as the brain of systems to control and manage their operations. Some of you have asked me what other courses you should take if you like to know more. Well, if you are interested in learning more on how a system works, then I would suggest you take courses on operating system and embedded system. In today’s systems, an OS like software (it may not be as complicated as windows XP or UNIX) is often needed to manage hardware resources efficiently and effectively. If you have a good idea on how a system works, you can define and design your hardware better. Of course, if you still have an appetite for computer architecture, you can take advanced computer architecture in the coming semester.

It has been my great pleasure to have this opportunity to share my experience in computer architecture with you. All of our students at NTHU are smart and talented. I know you can do very well if you set you goal clearly and work hard toward it. I wish all of you the best for your final examinations and a very happy new year. May God bless you!

真是個不可多得的好教授!!
